Method:
I am certified in the proven Compton
P-ESL (Pronouncing English as a Second Language) method to teach you how to
recognize and produce the sounds of spoken American English. The Compton method
was developed at the San Francisco Institute of Language and Phonology by Dr.
Arthur J. Compton, an experienced linguist. Since 1983, the Compton
method has helped thousands of non-native English speakers change their accents
-- and their lives.
I also use techniques and materials from my many years of teaching ESL to adults. We work on intonation, syllabication, phrasing and stress, so that your speech patterns sound more like native American English speakers.
The first step of the Speak Easy program is the initial speech analysis. In a 45--minute session, I analyze your speech to determine the patterns of accented speech that most affect your ability to be understood by others.
From this analysis, I determine the sounds that will make the most impact on your spoken English, and listen to your intonation patterns. With those sounds in mind, I create a completely individualized course of study for you.
You can choose individual or group classes, in-person or at a distance, depending on what works best for you.
By the completion of
the course, clients gain at least a 50% improvement in their ability to
be understood.
Fees:
15 weeks of individual training (in person or at a distance) costs $2,000. 15 weeks of in-person group training costs $1,500 per person (maximum of five people per group). These costs include all materials, as well as the initial and final speech analysis and a detailed progress report.
Most employers pay for this training for their employees. Please contact me for more information.
I accept payment by cash, check, MasterCard and Visa. A travel fee may be charged for sessions given at a location other than the Speak Easy office.
